Arrived and the first view of the Rockies!

After almost 21 hours of travelling and we finally touched down in Vancouver. It seemed I had passed the time away on the flight by eating, drinking and frequent toilet visits. Oh, and I also watched the Steve Jobs movie which good. He certainly was a great visionary, if not a little difficult to get on with – make that a lot difficult!

We had left a damp, cloudy London and arrived in a sunny west coast destination. Any aches and pains from the plane journey were soon forgotten. The added treat towards the end of the journey were some great views of the Rockies in a near perfect, cloudless sky!

Vancouver airport seemed light and airy. Very different from Heathrow. Immigration was a breeze, unlike our experiences at JFK. Even the guy at the immigration desk was friendly and chatty. We got a couple of recommendations from him of mountains to see when we journey through the Rockies. Let’s hope they’re on the itinerary. I must check it our later!

By the time we arrived at our hotel, we were just ready to catch up on sleep. A couple of quick showers, lights out and there we were in dreamland, anticipating the next day.

Vancouver beckons …

Finally we are on our way to Vancouver, the first stop before embarking on our railway journey through the Rockies.

We will spend a couple of days sightseeing in the city before the main adventure begins. Although I rather think it will start from the moment we touchdown in Vancouver!

Our hotel, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, is a landmark building and is known locally as the Castle in the City. Built in 1939, and located in downtown Vancouver, it reflects timeless luxury and the history of the city.

I’m sure it will be every bit as good as it looks – I’ll let you know just as soon as we get there and experience it first hand.
